Reading Responce

          Over my summer I read Witch and Wizard by James Patterson.  Basically the book starts out at the hanging of Whit, his sister Whisty, and their parents.   Then is flashes back to a break in at their house while they are sleeping.  The intruders are representatives from a new Political party called the New Order that took over and went evil.  Music and art is banned, books are burned, kids are imprisoned and all with magic are destroyed.  The kids soon find out that Whisty can shoot flames from her body when a guard  angers her.  That isn't enough to stop their imprisonment.  In a cell with only two things from home (a drumstick and a blank journal) they learn Whit's old girlfriend's ghost can help them escape.  They make their way  to a portal to the shadow world leaving their pursuers behind.  Only some can pass through the portals.  There, a kid leads them to a hideout of runaways.  They became restless because of their missing parents and decided to lead a jail raid to break out their parents.  The kids at the safe-house realize that Whit and Whisty both fit a prophecy description of who will destroy the New order.  When Whisty is captured an the siblings are separated, Whit fights to get her back.  I think the book had a great hook and that the plot changes really make it special.
